Mountain Lion: What a perfect trail name!! My dad is a very active member of his Lions' Club in District 22-W (Libertytown-Unionville Lions Club) which is in Central Maryland. He showed me the article about your hike in the Lion magazine because I love to hike/backpack and I've done a bit on the AT (from Tagg Run Shelter in south Pennsylvania to Bearfence Mountain Hut in the Shenandoahs). I'd love to see all of the AT eventually. What an awesome hike you're doing!! Congratulations!!

Dick: I have been a member of the Fort Wayne Coliseum Lions Club (IN) for over 40 years. I am 72 years old and am planning to walk the Appalachian Trail for 3 days (then a 2 day New River raft trip)with my grandkids next year. Was suprised and pleased to see your acticle in the Sept "The Lion". Any advise you can give me will be appriciated. Took down the address and will send a contribution.

As a member of the Little Falls, Minn Lions club I was quite interested in your venture. My son & daughter in law-Red Dog & Lucky Dog finished on 9-5-08. We drove them to Georgia in March & they stared on the 20th. Their feet are still really sore. Congradulations on your accomplishment & I will make a contribution.Roar Lions Roar!

Amanda from Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival

08/05/2008 09:34:09 I picked up Dick today on Route 20 and brought him into Lee, MA to find a hotel for the night. My other passenger (an intern at the festival, from Indianapolis) was a little scared that I picked up a hitcher, but I hope Dick's funny story about outsmarting a hungry and determined bear put her at eaze. I just wouldn't sleep right if I passed by a hiker in need. Best wishes on the last legs of your journey!!

Ron Twing

08/05/2008 07:35:18 Glad to see you made it to Mass. Doesn't seem possible that you have covered that much distance. Keep up the great work.

When I told my husband I picked up hitchhikers he was appalled but I assured him that you guys looked pretty non-threatening! I read your diary comment about Vernon - "NO highlights"?!! Well I guess that does describe our town. Best of luck on your journey.
